TK/K: What is the best way to learn about the desert habitat and the animals that live there? By inviting some critter friends to visit! This week, Billy the Tortoise helped us launch our first project, “How can we help animals in their natural habitats?”
Littlefoot the Owl from Vasquez Rocks also came by with expert Sarah, and we learned how to avoid harming his habitat. Sarah came by again and showed us skulls and pelts from different desert animals. We also made binoculars so we could go outside and explore.
5th/6th grade: They launched their new project, DreamUp to Space. The driving question is, “How can we impact our world through space exploration?” They are working closely with Kathleen Fredette, who is iLEAD Schools’ Director of STEAM Initiatives.
Kathleen works closely with NASA and flew in the SOFIA aerospace observatory, and helped launch this project. The learners will work collaboratively and present their proposals and experimental design on microgravity to a group of experts at College of the Canyons. If their proposals and designs are selected, the experiments will be sent to the International Space Station, where astronauts will conduct the experiment.
